Making the Cultural Web Visible

A map of the links between cultural organizations in and around Traverse City.

Artists, venues, museums, publications, festivals, and community organizations form a cultural network offline. Their websites tell part of that story online: who points people toward whom, which organizations act as connectors, and which relationships are harder to find.

I’m assembling a defined group of local cultural websites and examining their outbound links. Those links can become a network map and, eventually, a physical demonstration that people can inspect and discuss together.

A link alone cannot measure the strength of a relationship. It can show one visible pathway between organizations. The first stage is to settle the group of sites, check the crawl data, and make a baseline map. From there, I want to explore what connections already exist and what useful paths we might build next.
